When I first bought these size 7 shoes my German Shepherd was around 6 months old. I only bought them to help keep mud out of the house during rainy season, and to protect my car because she was in a jumping phase and scratching the paint. At the time I didn't measure her foot I chose a size based on breed reviews and her weight 62lbs.My GSD is now 4 and weights 65 lbs. and we have used these shoes so much over the years for hiking in adverse weather conditions both hot and cold, to still keep the mud out of my house, and protection from terrain. But the number one reason we use these shoes is for foot injuries. I have a very active dog and she plays hard, so she has had injuries from deck wood, a metal pipe in the ground, glass, she has torn off a nail after getting it caught on something, it's always a quick unforeseen incident, when we hike or travel I always keep 2 of these shoes in her backpack, (unless I foresee needing all 4) the other 2 in her first aid box because in an emergency I'm usually only using 1 at a time.With these shoes her injured foot always stays clean and she can not lick it or pull it off like tape. So the healing time is always quicker. When she is injured we only wear 1 shoe on the injured foot, she is very used to them and with either 1 or 4 shoes on they don't slow her down in any way. The high ankle of the shoes also covered her ankle when she tore off her dew claw.But the main reason for this review is to write about sizing. I recently bought my daughter these shoes for her dog a 4 month Vizsla because he had a foot injury, again I went with weight and general size when I ordered a size 7, I thought we might have to replace later but for now the fit is great. Then I received an email from the seller asking how was the fit was as some people found it difficult to find the right size so I decided to measure my dogs foot and the shoe based on what is on this listing.First I measured her paw how they did from the bottom and got 4" length - 2.5" width and that would suggest I get a size 8. Then I also pulled her paw out straight and drew around it and put the size 7 shoe beside it for comparison. The length to the bottom of her upper pad was about 5.5" and shoes are 6". I really don't need a wider shoe and these fit her very well I don't think I want a looser fit. However I feel that after measuring she probably could use a longer shoes so I'm going to order the size 8. I can always use an extra pair as I said we use these all the time. Then I will see which is the better fit, knowing that this size has served us well for 4 years!

They work very well but my dog was walking awkwardly the first few times she used them. They are a bit clunky overall but still function well.
