Get this ASAP for brown gas
I cannot say enough good things about Scotts Turf Builder Halts Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food—it completely transformed my lawn from dry, dull, and brown to lush, healthy, and green in just a few weeks! When I first got this product, my yard was patchy and lifeless, with crabgrass already threatening to take over. I followed the directions carefully, applying it early in the season as a pre-emergent to block those pesky weeds before they had a chance to sprout. Within days, I noticed subtle signs of life returning—first a deeper hue of green peeking through the faded blades, and then a thickening of the turf week by week. The built-in fertilizer is a game changer. Unlike other weed preventers that simply suppress unwanted growth, this product feeds your grass at the same time, creating the ideal environment for a thick, healthy lawn to outcompete the weeds naturally. I didn’t have to apply separate treatments, which saved me both time and money.Best of all, I saw zero signs of crabgrass! Not a single stubborn strand broke through, even in the trouble spots that usually give me grief. My lawn not only looks amazing—it feels soft and springy underfoot, like a golf course

It is VERY yellow so you know where you've spread it.
If you have a spreader, this is super easy. I have a little courtyard so I did this by hand down there. It is pretty big and heavy so maybe use some kind of small bucket. Be sure to wear gloves and long sleeves. The yellow dye is useful to see where you've spread it but it gets on everything. I used it right before rain was coming so it would dissolve right away. I got it specifically to kill weeds and hopefully keep the grass healthy.

Great product
Scott's turf builder has worked great for us in the Midwest. Our lawn was taken over by crabgrass. This not only has helped with managing the crabgrass, but it seems to have made our grass healthier overall. I appreciate that this has fertilizer in it! I didn't notice any issues with burning or killing of wanted grasses. It was pretty easy to spread.

Does prevent crabgrass
When dropped at the right time of year it does prevent crabgrass. Been using for 10 years. Keep in mind this does not kill crabgrass, prevents it.

Excellent Product
This works very well. I use this and the fall lawn treatment and some weed killer that attaches to a garden hose for periodic lawn treatment. For less than $100.00 per year my lawn (approx. 1/5 acre) is virtually weed free and nice and green. People compliment my lawn. I would suggest using this with the Scotts spreader so you will know the precise setting to use.Let me also mention: I use dishwashing gloves when putting this in the spreader, to break up clumps, etc. You should not have this touch your skin. Also, this will not prevent crabgrass or other weeds all season long. The effect lasts approximately 3 months. I usually apply it right after St. Patrick's Day, or a week later. That is what I understand to be optimal. Later in the season I use weed killer in a container that attaches to a hose for application. That will kill the weeds after this has worn off.
